Partnership

Went to a party today to celebrate a partnership of very good friends. There I had an interesting discussion about how Switzerland were the last country on earth to allow women to vote, given a lecture about direct democracy.

Later in the evening we got to discuss when gay partnerships were allowed in Switzerland (2007 I think they said), where I replied "but not in Appenzell I guess" (the canton they didn't allow women to vote until the 1990's). Touche. I think they got the message.

Nice party, as always with these friends.

hmm, I'm pretty sure there are still other countries where women can't vote, Saudi Arabia springs to mind. but yeah being ahead of countries like that doesn't exactly mean progressive, and I would bet that gay marriage is still a long way of for ze Swiss.

Whats with the funny hats?
