I got a phone call yesterday on my land line. Except for a few close relatives and friends, nobody ever uses that line. This time it was a guy who spoke English, which is unusual here in Zürich.
He presented himself as a representative from a company called Software something I cannot remember. I asked him again, and he said he was calling from HQ, like that would impress me.
When asking what he was selling, he said the service is for free, but his company picked up downloads on my computer that were viral. And he asked if I could go online so that he could show me what I needed to correct.
I might be blonde, but I'm not that stupid. I politely declined, and hung up.

ah, we had that scam when we were in Australia too. I was not so polite to them when they rang us.
I'm still not sure what they are after though. My passwords? My ID? Bank info? What?
apparently they get you to allow them to log into your computer remotely (to fix the problem with your viruses or whatever) and install some kind of phishing software to get bank details and passwords
