A white Zürich

I was up at "my" mountain again the other day, and there is one thing that disturbs me. Not the tallest building in Switzerland (so far), 'cause that is not disturbing the skyline, but another "chimney" being built.

I thought it was another attempt to build flats for rich people getting a 360 view of Zürich (but without balconies for obvious reasons, we don't want people falling out "accidently"), but I learned it wasn't. It was for...drumroll please...flour!

I had to ask twice, since I thought I misheard, but no. Seemingly Coop bakes all their bread for Switzerland in a bakery next-door, and they needed a flour mill. I guess they threatened to move all their business to another location, since the people voted for this building. I better get that citizenship soon, 'cause I would most certainly have voted no.

And enlighten me. Why can't a flour mill be smaller and broader? Why does it have to be like the tallest building in Switzerland? Does the flour have to fall down, instead of being transported horizontally?

I'm seriously thinking to stop buying bread in Coop. This is just not on!

so what's your objection exactly? I know you're not against tall buildings 'cos you like the Prime tower. I thought you were all for locally produced things these days.

I think it destroys the skyline. It's in the middle of the city. Why does a flour mill have to have a prime location?

And yes, I am definitely for local produce.

hmmm, this destroys the skyline but the Prime Tower, which is taller, doesn't. Food should be produced locally, but not in the city, where the people actually live, so actually not locally.

The Prime Tower is not in the middle of the city, look at the pic. And it's still local even if it's in the outskirts of the city and/or in a building not as tall.

However, it would be a demeaning factor if they made something on the facade of the building. But that's a double-edged sword. A building where people actually live or work have lights, to just use electricity for the sake of beauty is a waste of resources and money.

as far as i know they are going to have solar panels on the facade, as it's eventually going to be carbon neutral. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I love it (I actually don't really care) but I just found your argument somewhat inconsistent ;). Doesn't look like the middle of the city to me in that pic.
anyway, moving on
