Sechseläuten

Sometimes I think ignorance is my middle name. I knew it was Sechseläuten today, but I didn't realize it started so early. I thought it was the "Böög"-burning at six o'clock that was the big thing, but it turned out to be starting much earlier than that.

Actually already when I was on the lake, there were marching bands and animals and people everywhere. I, true to form, went to my fav place, had a seat in the sun with some friends and watched all the parades from there.

Each unit consists of a "Sumpf", which I believe is an expression for an old-fashioned profession, like baker, chimney sweeper, blacksmiths and the likes. Even some Swissguards participated this year, clad in their traditional orange and blue uniforms, originally designed by Michelangelo.

Zunft, not Sumpf
