Unexpected twist

A friend of mine was trying to park in Langstrasse, and happened to hit a BMW. This resulted in scratches on two parts of the other car, and some minor damage to her own vehicle. Honest as she is she first waited for the other driver to arrive, then called the police to report that she had damaged a car and didn't know who to contact. Police arrived at the scene, and through their system had found out who the owner of the other car was. Turned out he was the owner of a bar next-door, so they went and got him. The unexpected twist was that when he arrived at the scene, he claimed that the damage to his own car was done three weeks ago! Despite the fact that my friend knew that she had hit the car, and had damage to match on her own. He was almost angry that my friend had called the police. Fishy, huh? Turned out that the number plate on his car didn't match the register, it was supposed to be a Toyota. Guess he has some explaining to do! So if you plan to hit a car, do it in Langstrasse...

wow, this friend of yours must be Swiss (or maybe German). Who else would voluntarily call the police for a car scratch?

Half-Swiss, half-German actually. And I would also call the police. I wouldn't want my car (had I had one) to be scratched by an unknown and left.

It does cost money to replace a door and part of the front, even if you have insurance.

yes, but wouldn't it be better all round just leave a note on the windshield with your details, not call the police which only makes things complicated and as your friend found out can cause trouble, at least thats what we do here. unless you've got a particular desire to be attended by men in uniform that is ;)

The reason is that if somebody snatches that note on the windshield, you can be charged with trying to escape from the scene of the accident. There were quite a few witnesses. At least that's what I was told.

'Unexpected twist'

Just a little thought: Is it really legal to just leave a note? I barely doubt it, but to be honest I'm not sure. If anyone knows, let us dummies knwo too. :)

It's probably not illegal, at least not at Langstrasse :)
