No Swiss

Today I went to the Kreisburo to enquire about getting a Swiss passport. In August I have been here for 10 years. Turns out it's the wrong place to go to, but they did provide me with an informational broschure.

Turns out you have to be here for 12 years, not 10, before you can apply.

But this is Switzerland, and everything is up for negotiation. Like my friend, who had a question on her taxes and so called her local authorities for advice. They told her, since she was one of the high-paying tax people in the village, to interprete the rules in her favour. You gotta love a country when even taxes are up for discussion.

So maybe, if I dress up nicely, go there, hat in hand, they will look favourably on a too early application? Worth trying.

so how does it work? Do you apply for citizenship and a passport at the same time? Here you have to apply for citizenship and go through a whole lot of rigmoral and tests and then if you get the citizenship you can apply for a passport.

Not entirely sure, haven't been there yet, but I do know it involves an extensive application, an interview and lots of waiting time.
