It wasn't just about serving food to hungry people, the staff was also frequently approached about other problems. One guy asked for a pair of socks and got it. One woman asked politely if she could take a couple of sweets with her, and got the approval.
I understand that it is just as much being there, giving a smile, helping without asking questions, as serving food. Food is of course necessary, but so is empathy and not judging. I am sure that nobody chooses to live on the streets and go hungry, there is a reason behind.
I admire the people who work with this every day. I wonder how they keep their distance, and don't take their work home with them?
