Happy New Year!

Just in time before the New Year is about to ring in here in Switzerland. I had guests who insisted to go into town to see the fireworks, and was very worried about me being alone here at midnight.

Not even a million francs, ok maybe 100thou, would make me leave the comfort and warmth of my home to venture into a cold and rainy and very crowded Zürich at this time. Nope, instead I'm off to my neighbours who has a fab view of the whole city (incl fireworks) and from there I can roll home in no time.

Happy New Year!

2014

It's getting towards the end of another year, and I'm reflecting back on this one. I feel that 2014 has been a very good year for me.

First and foremost it's now 11 resp 9 years ago since my parents died, and I'm thinking that they probably would've been dead anyway by now by age. It was extremely traumatic the way they both went, and it took me many years to come to grips with it, but now I'm at peace with that. And even though I'm not religious I did have to study christianity in school, and so sometimes think that they are sitting up there on a cloud, looking down at me. Preferrably not when I'm naked.

Second, I managed to lose about 10 kg's, and those 10 have been bothering me for quite some years, although I didn't want to admit it. Now I'm up for the challenge of losing another 5 next year. Not sure it'll happen, but I'd like to try. If I reach that goal I promise to stop.

Third, I'm really proud that I took up horseback riding again. That I dared to, and that it's going so well. Look fw to those group lessons next January-June, even though it's at a strange time, 7.30 pm on Friday evenings.

Fourth, I continued to work as a volunteer about twice a month, serving coffee, drinks and cookies at the old peoples home.

Fifth, I started to clean my own home. This may not sound like a big deal, but since I had cleaning help for the last 30 years, it is to me. And I don't hate it! I actually kinda enjoy it.

The only bad things that happened this year was that a good person died, one that I knew pretty well. She was far too young to go, only 55. And that I lost contact with a family member. But that's life (or death if you will).

Life goes on, and I hope that 2015 will be even better!

New Years resolution

I told myself it is time. Time to get at least a little bit more healthy. And don't you get overexcited, I'm not gonna stop drinking or smoking, but maybe just try to get a wee bit more fit.

It started out fine on Tuesday. Not too much to eat and a walk to the shop, instead of taking the bus. Since I don't believe in overdoing it, I took the bus back. It might have something to do with uphill all the way.

Yesterday I didn't do too well. I didn't leave my flat. However, I didn't overeat either, only healthy stuff and no sweets.

Today I took a walk to the store again, not the one closest to me but maybe 20 minutes walk from where I live. And then, lo and behold, I suggested to some friends that we'll take a walk! Just for walkings sake, not because we were going anywhere in particular. Unheard of.

Only it turned out they walked even slower than I do. Friend suggested he didn't want to rush it, since I was wheezing. Wheezing my ass. I can actually wheeze and walk at the same time.

So now I have to talk myself into doing a powerwalk on a daily basis. If only there was a prize in the end of my struggle!

The 1st

After midnight my friend had the splendid idea that we would make a painting. At the time it seemed like a fantastic idea, even though I haven't painted since I was like seven years old.

I thought we would just grab a brush and start painting, but no. It is more difficult than that. First we used some sort of paste, like wet concrete and a spade to spread it out on the canvas.

Let me tell you, it is darn difficult with a tool like that to make any sort of shape or form, but since it was supposed to be abstract, I can with certainty say we succeded!

The clever ones can guess the motive.

We did one each. Up to you to guess which one is mine.

Anyway, then the paste had to dry so we had to continue the next day. I can honestly say that inspiration was on a slightly lower level then.

The next day we used sponges to make the background colours. A bit too pink perhaps, so friend will finalize on her own. I had to get back home to my furry ones.

This is what it looked like when I left it.

And I have to admit, painting was a lot more fun than I expected!

The 31st

I celebrated the switch of the years on the countryside with some of my favourites.

Of course they cannot compete with my own wee ones, but once a year they serve as a great substitute.

We had a fab evening with food, drinks and a gathering in the little village at 12 o'clock, as well as interesting talks, the way it can be when you had more than your fair share of wine and bubbly :).

Cheesy

I thought it would be best to start off the year with a big bang. After all, didn't want cat piss to be the memory of Jan 1, 2012.

So went for a few drinks. And to celebrate I ordered a cheese plate. Just didn't expect to get all the same cheese and nothing else.

Good and bad things

The good thing about the new year is that I have already been abroad, so feel I've done my quota for 2012 (had to pass thru bit of Germany, in order to get back to Switzerland and home).

Bad thing is that friends male cat pissed on my clothes.

The only way is up from here on.

Thingamajig

Look at the thingamajig in the foreground of the pic. This is a typical object you buy for somebody who has everything.

It's got a name in German consisting of 38 letters ("Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher"!) and I bet you can never guess what the function is.

It cracks eggs! You put the bottom on top of a boiled egg, then lift the round bit up, let it go, and it falls down, creates a bang and cracks the egg.

It cracks me up!

Donkeys

Some Swiss people are, how shall I put it, a tad introvert and prefer living out in the woods.

One of the guests yesterday lives in a "village" on a mountain top including five people, two donkeys and one pony.

This led to a number of jokes being made including donkeys, which I shan't mention here. Partly 'cause you had to be there, and partly 'cause I cannot remember most of them :), but it had a lot to do with the looks of people and their intelligence.

Old

Most of the things in the village I was visiting is very, very old. Here's a wall that is approx 400 years of age, and it's an indoor wall!

Had the privilege of seeing one of these old houses, which was renovated and modern inside, but with the twist of keeping old details like the wall. As well as the whole building structure coming to think of it.

Very charming!

Fire

My friend had arranged a smoking place outdoors.

And as usual most of the people ended up there.

Food, food and more food

Ended last year with a tablegrill with lotsa fab food. It was anything from lamb, pork, chicken, bacon, scallops, shrimps, fish to vegetables and salad. I really stuffed myself, not thinking twice about the diet that will soon start (but not before I finish the chocolate mousse leftover I got to take with me!).

A very nice evening together with good friends!

Apparatus

That machine I was supposed to get on the 29th, moving my arm around, never appeared. Haven't heard beep from those people, and now I'm hoping it's too late. Had physio yesterday, and again on Thursday so fuck'm. If they don't wanna do business, I ain't buying. But the machine I already have, my dishwasher, was evil enough to break down on the 30th. Great! Now I have to do the dishes manually with only one hand. Fortunately a good friend stayed over on the 31st and when I got up the next morning it was all done. Washed, rinsed, dried and back in the drawers and cupboards. And next week I'm seeing the doctor. Then it'll be 6 weeks since the op. Keep your fingers crossed I can get rid of the airbag, and more importantly, that my shoulder is well again!

New Years

Promised you pics from New Years.
This is all I managed. Late at night, not sure what we talked about but was fun as I remember.
Even though one is texting and one is looking bored.
Must have gotten'm at a bad moment. And this was even before I had a fit.
You know, having pain for a month wearing a friggin airbag can get to anyone I'm sure. Especially fuelled by some alcohol.
But there was a reason for it. And in those alco-hazed moments you learn things about your friends. Some good, some bad, but always educational. Ok, 'nuff about that.
This is a new year, and it can only get better!

Broken glass

They say that a broken glass gives luck. Then I ought to be very lucky 2011. First I broke a red wine glass with a little help from my "airbag" on New Years Eve. Another white wine glass broke in the dishwasher, and to top it all off I managed to drop a glass on my stone floor today. 1,000 pieces and I'm not exaggerating. I was down on my knees, picking up glass with my left hand for ages. Yes, 2011 is gonna be a great year!
