Trolley

Voila! Here it is, my new serving trolley.

Thank you rescue team!

Audi something

A friend of mine needed a new car, and like anyone would do, went to buy one. I guess one of his nine other cars didn't suffice.

10 steps to success

An Ikea-box. Gaaaaahhhh!!!! Even though it's only 10 steps to put the darn thing together, I only got to four.

Zina insisted on helping, but to no avail. Now I have called in the rescue team.

To be continued...

Rat

Went to Ikea today to buy something for the kitchen, but couldn't resist a small present for my cats. After some initial suspicion, it turned out to be a hit.

Castration

Went to consult with the vet today. He recommends removing the whole package, and not only cut the cords to prevent pregnancies. This is because there might be cysts in the future. And it's called castration even on female cats.

I asked whether they would change personality and become fat. He laughed, touched his own stomach and said food makes you fat, not castration. He was like a Santa Claus, so I kinda trust him. Personalities will not change he claims.

So now I have an appointment for my little ones. Good thing they don't know what's coming!

Socks

When I was packing up the boat today I noticed a pair of socks squeezed into the bridge I park at. I so wondered why.

Probably a suit from a bank nearby who had a free moment, and took off his socks, then forgot them. But who knows? Maybe it was somebody thinking I needed socks? But how would the suit explain showing up after lunch without socks? Wouldn't he miss them?

It's all a mystery.

Burning

I was considering buying a cake from Sprüngli for my party, a big thick chocolaty thingie with candles. One for each year. Only on second thought burning down my place is probably not a good idea!

Mutilation

On Thursday I shall be meeting with a vet regarding sterilization of my little sweeties. I want to go there without the cats first to get a feel for the vet, and the clinic. The second I see rusty equipment, or a guy without empathy I am outta there.

Oh, they are so not gonna like it!

The famous wine diet

I have fattened lately. Ever since I found that great sandwich shop, I have put on weight. This is absolutely no good, since I have to fit into my fabulous dress in about a month, so from now on it's diet time.

Guest what it's called? The wine diet. Better a slim alcoholic, than a fat bore.

Out and about

Was closing up the boat for the season today. I know, it's 23°C and sunshine but enough is enough. Now it's sealed with silver tape, and not even a hummingbird would get in there. I hope. Not that there are flocks of hummingbirds in Switzerland but still.

After all that work (all of 10-15 mins) I felt I needed a drink, so went to my place, where I got a private concert. It was the staff, the band, an ex miss Switzerland and her guy (either boyfriend or gay, no hetero man that handsome is ever single!) and me. Good fun.

It might have been that they were there for a shooting, but I choose to believe it was organized for me.

Politicians - respect

So after failing miserably in being my old self, having fallen asleep with a pile of purring fur next to me this afternoon, I ended up watching tv about people who got incapacitated and how they deal with it. Uplifting on a Saturday evening. Not.

But it made me think. Being a politician must be the worst profession there is. How do you decide where to invest the money? The elderly, who have worked their whole life and deserve a pension? Or perhaps the children who needs a good school in order to grow up and be good and tax-paying adults? Or what about the disabled who cannot tend to themselves? Or what about infrastructure, housing and transportation?

I think whatever the politicians decide, they will get criticized. And probably rightly so. We need interest groups, but imagine having a job getting criticized whatever you do. How many people would put up with that?

And for the record I'm not talking about idiots like Berlusconi, Ghadaffi and others who just want to rip people off.

Personally, I think a tax percentage of 30% is reasonable to help others. Work 1,5 days a week to support the society, and 3,5 days for yourself. That would make sense. Countries like whole of Africa, most of South America, eastern Europe and Greece in western Europe would be out of poverty in notime. Remember where you heard it first!

My funny cats

With the risk of losing my "devoted" blog readers I have to talk about how much joy my cats give me.

They play, tails thick, they are wiggling their behinds, then jumping out from behind the corner, attacking the sister. It is so funny to watch. They are also champions in jumping. I get jealous seeing them. They are so gracious when moving. Most of the time I don't know where they are, unless I see them.

Sometimes they roll around on the floor, biting, wrestling and attacking each other, until you hear a loud "miaow". That means one of them has bitten a bit too hard and to stop. Next thing you know they are sleeping next to each other.

I cannot remember what it was like living without them!

75

Tomorrow my mother would've been 75 had she lived. And I'm not exaggerating, she was the best. Simply the best. The nicest person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

Not saying we never fought, of course we did. Especially when I was a teenager. Contrary to what you might think, I was a tad difficult. Getting home drunk when I was 13, hanging out with boys, that type of thing.

When I got older we liked each others company. We liked to hang out, go out together, visit each other, just being the best friends.

There are very few days still when I do not think of her. I miss you Mum!

Cat mistress

These days I am a sorry excuse for the party girl I once was. Ok, girl might be stretching it, but woman then.

Very often when I'm away I think about my cats. What are they doing, do they miss me, are they up to something mischievous?

This pattern has gotta change. Not a foot in the grave yet.

I know it's good for the cats that I'm away, and they get a chance to miss me. The feeling when I get home and Zetti meets me inside the door, having small eyes and yawning gives it away even if she wants to project the image that she was wide awake and just waiting for me to come back, is sooo nice. Zina takes a more leisurely approach, coming when it suits her.

Yes, gotta snap out of this! The cats are fine without me. At least until they get hungry...

It's raining mice

Haha, my cats have no sense of humour. Normally we play the catch-the-mouse-game with me throwing the mice along the hallway corridor, them catching them and then we change positions me throwing the mice the other way.

Today I surprised them by standing in the same place, throwing the mice up in the air, dropping them on the floor singing "It's raining mice, hallelujah, it's raining mice, hallelujah".

They didn't get it.

It could possibly have something to do with my singing...

The perfect excuse

At 6.30 this morning I awoke by a big crash. One of the cats (suspect Zina) had pulled one of my candleholders off the window shelf onto the floor. Glass everywhere.

This happened to be a gift that I liked, but I realized the upside of this "accident". From now on, every time I get a gift I don't like, I can blame the cats. Excellent!

Bzz-bzz-bed

Was lying in a bed this afternoon on display in a store. Felt quite funny actually.

The frame would be shiny black and equally shiny metal legs, with a headboard leaning back 4 cm's. Like this, but black and with different legs.

The mattress would be top-of-the-class with air and filled with sheep and cashmere wool. Supersoft.

And the bottom would include a 4-engine electronic device to move head, knees and feet up or down to ensure perfect sleep position. Bzz, feet up, som more bzz, head down, even more bzz, knees bent. How comfy is that?

Comes with 10 years warranty, delivery and installation.

Downside? None really, except for that the price is a tad steep. Only 14,551 Swiss francs...

Weed

I know this is regarded weed, but I am amazed that something can grow out of granite stone on my balcony.

Play!

Yes, the cat tree was definitely a hit!

Furniture shopping

Went to look at a new bed today, but ended up browsing other furniture, just like with the cat tree. Only I didn't buy anything. Yet.

They did have beds, but not in the store so couldn't try the one I want.

Instead I found a really cool shelf, but not sure I have space for it.

And a sofa I am considering. Very comfy, and comes in most colours except purple :(.

Another cat tree

Zetti and I are having a bit of an issue. I bought a very nice cat tree to be used for clawing. Zina got the picture, but Zetti enjoys the sofa more. My mistake, since I should've stopped her much earlier.

Anyway, thought I'll go and buy some clawing board and place it where she normally claws. And guess what? Couldn't resist this. And the cats are very curious!

Housewife wannabe

Finally got around to buy a new baking plate, after the one I threw on the floor. I like it, except for the orange handles. Was thinking that it maybe will look purple in the right light.

And then I tested it! I baked! In hindsight I probably should've cut the dough in two...

Cheesy

Having a friend over this evening who I haven't seen in a while, so thought I'd make a little extra. Normally we'd only have a drink together.

That Manchego cheese is just delish!

Machinery update

So finally all my machinery is working. Turned out the dishwasher needed a finetuning on the installation, something that was known amongst the repair guys in Bauknecht, but not with the installation department. One might think that quality had come a bit further year 2011.

The cupboard hosting my trash container have gotten new rails, and now slides in and out like...well you know.

And today finally, 3-4 months after being reported, my large balcony glass window should have been replaced. It has a crack due to tension. But when the guys arrived they brought a small window, and seemed utterly lost. What happened to Swiss precision? Ain't anywhere close to my flat I can tell you.

Sunday drink

Again Oktoberfest is approching. In September. And the latest dirndl/lederhosen fashion was displayed in my place.

Went there with a friend who ordered "a small beer". Hahaha!

I got bitten!

I got bitten when swimming today! At least I think so. Two teeth mark and a swelling. I really don't want to know what monsters Zürichsee hides!

Building somewhere in Zürich

This building is cool. I like it 'cause it's uneven, colourful and surprising. A bit like myself actually.

No waxing

I don't get todays obsessing with shaving away body hair. It's one thing to shave under the armpits, I do that myself, since I sweat less and it feels better. But shaving or waxing down there, what's the deal with that? And I don't get men who want to sleep with somebody who looks like a little girl. Isn't it something a little weird with that?

Besides, a man should look like a man I think. Not like an androgynous something.

French kissing

I have always thought that French kissing meant when you stick your tongue down somebody else's throat. Now I know better.

Today I was observering some French people meeting each other. They did kiss-kiss (only twice), then shook hands and said "nice to meet you". What? Where I come from you never kiss anybody you haven't met before. Heck, I hardly kiss anybody even if I met them many, many times before.

What is all this about? French politeness? Probably something to do with the French all sleeping around. There is a reason a cliche is a cliche.

Reversed sponsoring

As a fashion guru, I'd like to share a tip with you. In the past companies used to pay money to a famous person for wearing their clothes, in order to "build" the brand.

Nowadays companies are not just selling clothes, they are selling a lifestyle, and after that Norwegian killer showing up wearing Lacoste, the company contacted the Norwegian police, asking him not to.

I'm totally up for this. Any company approaching me for not wearing their clothes are welcome with an offer.

Black Sea

A friend of mine is going on holiday. Nothing wrong with that, but he has chosen an unexpected venue. Eastern Europe. But ok, it's the Black Sea and he's going for sun and sex.

I wish him the best weather and a big, bushy...dare I say...Bulgarian.

Obedience - HA

They really enjoy that special cat grass I bought for them. I've been told it helps with digesting all that cat hair.

Zina is eating, and I asked Zetti to sit nicely for a pic. She complied for about 1 sec, then started to walk towards me.

Training session

I know you're all dying for an update on the cats. Here is another training session for the coming-up visit to the vet.

Cute as hell, aren't they?

When you least expect it

Bad blogger! I know. But like Schwarzenegger said in raspy voice: "I'll be back".

F6/E4 Bauknecht

After running my new dishwasher once, it now doesn't work again. It flashes error F6/E4. And if you read the manual carefully, like I always do :), nowhere can the combination F6/E4 be found.

Unfrigginbelievable! I am doomed to do the dishes manually for the rest of my life!

Politics

So had dinner with the neighbours. Didn't turn out at all as I thought. This is both good and bad. Good 'cause it's nice with surprises, bad 'cause of the topic.

We discussed politics. Big mistake. Not because we had different opinions about right or left, but because of his views.

Let me explain.

He thinks that the parents who sent their kids to the camp in Norway should have been aware of the risk of them being shot. He thinks the camp was political, and therefore risky.

I tried to tell him that I lived in that part of the world for more years than I care to remember, and that I might know a little bit more about democracy and why this could not have been anticipated, but to no avail.

Mind you, he grew up with Tito so references slightly different...

Cat story

Since I've been with cats I love reading about cat stories. Ashamed to admit that I today google "cute cats". Ok so shoot me.

This kitten got stuck under a car, and when the driver heard some miaows she drove to a garage, and they found the little kitten hidden behind the tank.

Reminds me when I was a kid and my parents drove down the road. Our cat had hidden underneath the car, and a few kilometers later we saw a black/white thing shooting away from the car. She survived, only to be killed by the neighbours car later. I mourned for a long time. Her name was Mirran.

2 year jubilee!

Can you believe it's 2 years ago to the day I moved into my new and still fabulous flat? Funnily enough, it feels like I lived here a small lifetime but still remember what it was like moving in, after waiting almost 2 years for the house to be built.

Happy days. So glad I chose to buy this particular flat, in this hood and with these neighbours (despite some flaws in taste here and there :).

And tonight I am invited (well, I gently suggested one might say) to one of the neighbours for dinner. I'm sure we'll talk a lot about the experience of buying and designing a flat.

Had I had the experience and wisdom (!) today I had when I was a teenager, I would have chosen another career path. One as architect or designer.

But better late than never I guess, even if I actually had to buy the place in order to get some influence.
